A FAMILY AFFAIR
Sometimes, I forget how fortunate I am to be studying overseas. I start forgetting how much my parents have sacrificed just to send me abroad to get a good education. It’s times like these that I feel ashamed that I actually compared and ranted about how I wish I had more or what I have isn’t sufficient. I expect them to give me more, taking everything I have for granted.
It’s funny how they never say ‘No’ to our requests, no matter how hard it is for them. They’ll try their best to fulfill what we wanna do. We wanna study a language, we wanna go for this certain trip, we wanna take up this course. They never fail to give it to us, even though it means cutting down on things they need in their own personal lives. And sometimes, we forget that, and we end up getting lazy about the course we were once so excited about or end up asking for more money to have our own fun.
I guess staying abroad right now has really taught me alot of things about who matters most and made me reflect about the main purpose of me being here in Melbourne.
As Eunice once told me about a quote,
“Other things may change us, but we start and end with the family” (Anthony Brandt)
How true.
